Breaking: Lagos Elders’ Council warns Niger Delta militants
Lagos Elders’ Council has responded to the recent spate of kidnappings and killings allegedly perpetrated in the state, by militants from the Niger Delta Region. In a statement made available to Saturday Vanguard, the Council said:
“We wish to strongly advise the Niger Delta militants to desist from turning Lagos State into theatre of war”, adding “Lagosians are peace loving people and will not fold our arms and allow our land defiled with innocent blood. Lagosians have always sympathised with the Niger Deltans on the allocation and management of their oil resources.”
“Kidnapping of our royal fathers and killing of innocent Lagosians are highly condemnable and unwarranted. This dastardly act will not solve the Niger Delta problems but will rather compound their problems.
Besides it will make them lose the critical support of the Yorubas.
”The Council advised the militants that it would pay them to dialogue with the Federal Government and lay bare their grievances before the nation rather than embarking on unwarranted and unreasonable violence, adding that “the Niger Deltan militants are fast losing focus of the objective of their struggle.”
The Council “therefore, call on the Niger Delta Avengers to lay down their arms and resort to peaceful resolution of their issue with the Federal Government.”
