NAPTIP Declares Speed Darlington Wanted over Alleged Rape, Cybercrimes

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has declared Nigerian singer and internet personality, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, wanted over serious allegations including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.

The agency issued the notice on Friday, June 27, via its official X handle, urging members of the public to provide credible information on his whereabouts.

“Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, is wanted in connection with alleged offences including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking,” the agency said.

“Anyone with credible information on his whereabouts is urged to contact NAPTIP immediately. 07030000203 & 627 | info@naptip.gov.ng.”

The development follows Darlington’s failure to honour two prior invitations by the agency after a viral video surfaced online in which he appeared to boast about having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.

The video, which caused outrage across social media platforms, prompted NAPTIP to summon the entertainer to its Abuja office for clarification.

Although he failed to show up for the initial invitation and a follow-up scheduled for June 2, Darlington later responded through his legal team in a statement posted to Instagram on that same day.

“For the sake of clarity, I reiterate that the said Instagram video was made for purely entertainment purpose only and does not reflect any previous or future event involving my person with any female; minor or Major,” he stated.

“Sadly, what was meant to be a joke has been blown out of proportion by persons looking for fault where none exists,” the statement added.

While denying any wrongdoing, he issued an apology: “Without conceding to any wrong doing, may I offer my profound apology for any bad blood or misunderstanding my innocuous actions may have caused the online community, but to the discerning, the video was only for clout and entertainment purposes.”

He also committed to cooperating with the investigation, promising to appear at NAPTIP’s office on June 26, 2025, for further clarifications.

It remains unclear whether that meeting held or if he failed to attend again, leading to the agency’s wanted declaration.
